A Dunedin man who made the trip to South America by the Mamari last year, stated that it seemed rather early in the season for the ice to lie breaking away. The rounding of Cape Horn was a worry to the mariner in darkness or thick

The -hip would take a wide berth of Cape Horn before setting her course for the lotl l* tip up the coast to Montevideo for coaling. The wireless station which received the S.O.S. signal was at liivadavia, on the Gulf of St. George. It not the furthest south station, as another was situated on Tierra del Fuego.
