PURDY WINS AGAIN.
AMERICAN JOE HALL OUTPOINTED IN KEEN TUSSLE. DECISION LOUDLY CHEERED. BRISBANE, July 17. The Auckland boxer, Charles Purdy (lOst), defeated the negro, Joe Hall (10st 31b), on points in a 15-rounds contest at Brisbane last evening. The negro took four out of the first six rounds and then eased off. In the 14th Hall was stung into a vicious attack and had Purdy going, but he failed to
follow up his advantage in the loth and the verdict was loudly cheered. Despite Hall's disappointing display Purdy was always busy. His evasion was reminiscent of Grime, but things looked bad for him in the 14th, when Hall showed a flash of real form.
By his defeat of Hall, who is unquestionably one of the five best lightweights in Australia and highly thought of, Purdv's stock should rise again. Hall ran Billy Grime closely when he lost twice 011 points to him, but Billy settled the argument at the next meeting by knocking out the American. So far, despite what boxing critics may say against Purdy's style the New Zealander has done all that was asked in the way of beating the men sent against him, including Fairhall, who is being keenly championed as the best lightweight in the Commonwealth.
