Record Earnings But Big Deficit. VICTORIA'S POSITION. (Received 2 p.m.) MELBOURNE, this day. A> a result chiefly of increased fares and freights which became operative last year, the earnings of the Victorian railways for the year just ended amounted to £13.302,000. an increase of £975,000 over the previous year and a record. Despite this increase, a deficit of £.">O.OOO is expected on the year's operations. A j-imilar deficit is expected from the tramways.
