MR. E HICKSON.
HEW PRESIDENT OF AUCKLAND TENNIS ASSOCIATION. SERVICES RECOGNISED.
i In Mr. E. Hickson. their new presi. • dent, the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association has one who lias well merited the honour paid him by election io th» premier official position. Its destinies could scarcely be in better hands.
Mr. Hickson lias }>ecn connected with Auckland provincial lawn tennis the last 25 years, both in an official and a plaving sense. His first club was the West End Club at Ponsouby. which went out of existence during the war. After a period with tho Epsom Club ho carried on with Rcrnuera as far back as 1912, and Las held office there on the executive committee ever since that year. From the position of secretary he became vice-president and president, and in fact during his connection with the club he held all the offices at one time or another. His keenness and ability naturally brought him more and more to the front, and consequently five years or so ago ho was made a vice-president to tho Auckland Association, and that tmjsition he has filled with every credit since. His election on Wednesday to the presidency is, therefore, only just recojmition of his services to the association,. and through it the game. Although not taking the active part in tournaments that once he did, Mr, Hickson is still a force to reckon with on the courts. In 1912, with Professor J. P. Grossmann, he won tho doubles championship, and won it a second time partnered by H. G. Goldsmith. On one occasion Mr. Hickson got into the singles final, but was beaten.
