PAPAKURA TOWN BOARD.
The Papakura Town Board met on Monday evening, the chairman (Mr. Jas. McC'ali) presiding. The board decidcd to attend the town planning conference in Auckland. The traffic inspector (Mr. Moriilcan) reported that 14 speeding cases and four bicycle riders were taken up at the Police Court yesterday morning, and all cases were won. Fines in regard to speeding were from £5 to £2 respectively, and for footpath riding from £1 to conviction and costs. The Band Committee was asked to consider the position of the Town Hall artd report. The engineer reported on progress .nade by Messrs. Grinter Bros, ou Great South Road improvements. At several positions where tar macadam paths had been previously constructed, it would be necessary to lessen the original cross falls in order to suit the level of the new kerbing. As certain repairs were also necessary vn account of stormwater drains, he would be glad of instructions as to whether this work should be carried out by the contractors or by the board's workmen. The cost would be chargeable to loan account. It would be advisable for the board's workmen to carry out the reprirs. The tar sealing of shoulders and footpaths would have to be deferred. It might be advisable to employ the board's workmen and plant for this work. The engineer was asked to give a detailed report about certain repairs. It was decidcd to call tenders tor labour for the erection of a shed 20 x 42, for the housing of the board's plant. As the result of a tour of inspection the board decided to place street lights at twelve places.
