WOMAN GETS CRAZE.
Aspirant For Trans-Atlantic Journey. WILL TRY TO REACH ROME. NKW YORK, June 19. The latest aspirant for trans-Atlantic flying honours is Mrs. Luba Phillips, an American of Russian birth. Mrs. Phillips says she will possibly fly alone from Newfoundland to London next month, or she may be accompanied by a navigator and a pilot. In that event she will endeavour to make a non-stop flight record from New York to Rome, or beyond. She flew in Anthony Fokker's first 'plane, and in 1912 she established the woman's altitude record. She carried Red Cross supplies by airplane for the Russian Army in the war. Byrd Next on the List. The next New York-Paris flight scheduled is that of Commander Byrd. He Mill use "the "plane in which he flew over the North Pole, and will be accompanied by two or three other airmen. If he is successful he will endeavour to make a return flight. „ . , Commander Bvrd Commander Byrd. j s expec ted to hopoff as soon as the weather is favourable. The Army Department at Washington has approved the plans for a flight from California to Hawaii by Lieutenants Maitland and Hagenberger, air service pilots, in a triple-motored Fokker monoplane. Tests will be conducted at San Diego, when the machine arrives there from Dayton, Ohio. It is expected that the flight will start within a month. It is designed to subject navigation instruments to a thorough test in practical use.
