AUCKLAND TROTS.
CHIEF EVENT TO TERENCE DILLON. i THREE HORSES FALL IN CAMPBELL HANDICAP. LADY DUNMORE SECOND LEG OF DOUBLE. Favoured with a surprisingly .fine afternoon after several days of mixed weather, the Auckland Trotting Club on Saturday, entered upon its two-days' winter meeting, and the growth of popularity of the light-harness sport was once more in evidence, as a remarkably big attendance journeved to Alexandra Park to enjoy the racing. The track was slow, but was otherwise in excellent order, and the programme of events produced delightful racing. The principal event, the Campbell Handicap, won by the Dunediu-trained Terence' Dillon, was somewhat marred by the tailing of three horses, Silk Thread Machine Gun and Billy Sea, while Dick Dillon was so badly interfered with that he was pulled up # During the day the sum of £45,009 was put through the machine, compared with £49,026 10/, a decrease of £3457 10/. A Hot Favourite Scores. Daytime and Henry Logan were the only defections from the Hobson Handicap, leaving a field of fifteen. Great Earl was made a very warm favourite, carrying over £600 more than Direct Wood, witn Marshal Neil, Respect, and Uncle Bert next fancied. Great Earl quickly ran to the front, and going past the stand was attended by Delavau Bill, Uncle Bert, Kua Pere, Grattan Thorpe, Amaris, Buz Buz, Kespect, and Direct WooG. When they came around again Great Earl was still in front, followed by Delavan Bill, Uncle Bert, Amaris, Kua Pere, Buz Buz, Direct Wood, and Kespect. Direct Wood was one and a-half length away fourth, followed by Marshal Neil, Rock Hinton, Grattan Thorpe, Gold Dial, Delavan Bill, Buz Buz, and Kua Pere. A Close Finish. All paraded for the Stewards Trot Handicap, and Trampfast was made about £120 better favourite than Elzear, with Frisco Beau, and Sister Beatrice next in demand. The favourite failed to go away properly and lost a lot of ground. Ingle Bin gen was the early leader from Sister Beatrice and Winiinera King. Before the stands were reached, The Tartar was in charge attended by Sister Beatrice, Ingle Bingen, Wimmera King, Frisco Beau, Ngatira. Betty Moko, Peter McKiuney, Trampfast, and Elzear. When they came round again, The Tartar and Sister Beatrice were together, followed by Wimmera King, Trampfast, ingle Bingen and Frisco Beau. The Tartar led along the back from Sister Beatrice, Wimmera King, Betty Moko, Trampfast, and Ingle Bingen. The Tartar was first to curn for home, closely attended by Sister Beatrice and Betty Moko, with Wimmera King, Frisco Beau, and Trampfast next. In a good finish Betty Moko got the decision by half a head from the (Tartar, who beat Sister Beatrice by a length and a half. Frisco Beau was two ana a quarter lengths away fourth, with Elzear, Trampfast, Peter McKinney, Wimmera King, and Ingle Bingen next. Mars Wins at Second Attempt. Tui Zolock was half a length away fourth, followed by Henry Logan, Richore, Lord Xepean, Van Rich and Rua Pere. The Concluding Event. The programme concluded with the Cornwall Handicap, for which Dick Dillon, Western King, Holly Boy, and Harold Thorpe failed to keep their engagements.
