Emily Howland. a Friend in her 100 th vcar. living at Sherwood. Cayuga County. fca:- been the recipient ot the honorary riegree of Doctor ot" Letters conferred upon her by the University ot' New York tState. This is the first time that the University at Albany has conferred an honorary degree on a woman. Miss Howland had arrived in Xew York the previous evening, after a 19S-mile motor ride from her home, apparently none the ■worse for the effort.
