SHEARERS' ACCOMMODATION.
COMPLAIKT OF ICEGUECT. MINISTER PROMISES TO ACT. <Ey Telegraph.—Press Associatiou.) WELLINGTON, this day. A deputation representing the Xew Zealand Workers' Union waited on the Hon. G. J. Anderson, Minister of Labour. and made specific complaints in regard to alleged breaches of awards in the matter of the sanitary condition* of shearers' accommodation, and their sleeping quarters. The Minister said an honest attempt had been made to put things right, but he would see that further inspections were made. There were many settlers who were up against it. but in every instance where they were in a position to make improvements they would be compelled to act. Prosecution"? would "be made wherever he thought them justified. Mr. Anderson said he had had investigated the question of compensation to those affected by cement, and he had been advised that it was not so much the effect of cement as the condition of the men's health that caused disease. He would confer with the Minister of Health on the matter. Similar investigation -was -being made in regard to the effects of basic slag.
