PAPAKURA BOY SCOUTS.
BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION
A large and representative gathering of parents, friends and well-wishers met at the Paragon Hall to assist in and witness the celebration of the Papakura Boy Scouts! first birthday.
The secretary of the local committee, Mr. C. S. Beeehey, presided, and ou the stage with him were Messrs. Grigs'by. Scou£ Commissioner, Boswell, District Scoaimaster, and Mead, District Secretary.
Mr. Beeehey said that the formation of the troop had meant a lot of very hard work for Mr. .ISussell Lound, it» first Assistant Seot&niaster, who had' epent much time and trouble in the work "of organising it on proper lines. He also paid a tribute to the present Scoutmaster, Mr. A. Slessor, who had had a large and varied experience of scouting in England and Europe, and who was doing wonderful work in the troop. The programme submitted was one entirely provided by the troop, with the assistance of Miss Beams, who at the last minute graciously assumed the duties of pianist. It consisted of instrumental and vocal solos, vocal duets, ambulance displays, physical exercises, etc., and was a splendid example of the versatility of the troop and their scoutmaster.
Commissioner Grigsby congratulated the troop on its appearance and behaviour, and especially on having such an excellent scoutmaster. Hβ presented Mr. Slessor with his scoutmaster's warrant, and the badges to the boys who had won»them during the year.
