Tin- Di-trif-t Engineer of Duncdin. inter\iowed this morning, stated that tile Railway Inquiry Board had finished its invest ica t ions concerning tho recent accident to the express train at Timaru anil had adjourned to (liristehnrch. where it will make further inquiries. He -t'.ited that on April 11 an express train was derailed at Caroline Bay. and the police discovered a boy who a 1 minted putting stones on one rail ten minutes before the train passed, and who watched the train po over them. On May 30 a railway officer wa< passing over the line around Caroline Ray on his velocipede, when he discovered eighteen flat stones on the rails, lying from 10ft to 50 ft apart. The stones were about .'Jin across and lin thick. He stated that an express passed over that part of tlie line within ten minutes of the stones being removed. After the accident on June 4, marks were found on the top of the rail at the point of derailment of the engine wheels, showing where two stones had been crushed bv the express train.
