SPORTING GESTURE.
AKARANA GOLFERS' GIFT £200 MOWERS TO CLUB.
A striking example of the good-fellow-ship and comradeship that exists among members of the Akarana Golf Club was evidenced at a special general meeting of the club held during the week. The meeting was held for the purpose of receiving the committee's report for the club's first quarter-year, and the committee having reported the purchase of a quintet of mowers for £200 cash, which it was proposed to raise by means of debentures* a member suggested that the quintet of mowers be purchased by the members of the club and donated to the club. The suggestion was taken up with enthusiasm, and a resolution was carried almost unanimously that members by means of a voluntary contribution of 10/ each, purchase the mowers outright and donate it to the club, leaving the club free from liability in the matter. Such an action by the members of the club, which is probably without precedent in the history of clubs in the Dominion, shows what a keen personal interest members take in their club, and augurs well for its future, for, with such keen and.aetiye co-ope.ration between the members of the club and the committee, every member is personally and keenly interested in all matters touching the club's welfare. The club is a happv family. ' r " Th e treasurer's interim report showed that the club was in a very sound posifinancially, and the estimate of receipts and expenditure for the balance of the financial year disclosed that at the end of the first year of heaviest expenditure, there wHI certainly not be a deficit but there is every prospect of a credit balance.
