THAMES DIAMOND JUBILEE.
STEAMER ARRANGEMENTS. The general and executive committees in connection ««th the forthcoming diamond jubilee of the Thames Goldficld met on Wednesday evening. Mr E. Watson presiding. The Thames Borough Council notified that it had appointed the Mayor (Mr. W. Bongard) as its representative on the executive committee. It wa« decided to purchase 3000 badges bearing the Thames coat of arms for sale. An interesting family relic in tie shape of a miner's ri<rbt issued in 1573 by the late Colonel Fraxer was offered by a Stratford resident, and the committee agreed to accept the document for exhibition during the celebration. In connection with the executive's inquirv the Northern Steamship Company replied that a special time-table had" been arranged from Friday, July 29, to Tuesday. August 2. so tint there would be ample opportunity for people to visit Thames while the celebrations were going on and return acain without actually going down for the one trip. They could not agree to the suggestion to charter the boat on July 29 and also carry out the excursion running as map* ped out, as it meant that the majority would go down on the 29th and the other trips would be a financial loss. If they ran the one trip down on Friday and back on Sunday they would be prepared to meot the committee in the matter. The company was of the opinion that the programme mapped ont would amply provide for visitors who wished to attend the juhilec. On the motion of Mr. Danbv it was decided to express regret at thc'inabilitT of the company to provide an excursion for the occasion and to ask for reconsideration of the matter. Failing a satisfactory arrangement the committee would be compelled to make other arrangements.
