Now that the Government has decided to adopt the coastal route for the railway between fti-borne and Wairoa. the people of the district want to know when it is proposed to besrin the construction. The Hon. K. i l . Williams, Minister of Public Works, in an interview, said he could give no indication, as the date depended entirely on how the public moneys could be allocated. The susrpestion made in Napier recently, that- the Government intends building a permanent hiphway in place of a railway, was brought under the notice of the Minister, who did uot appear to lake it seriously. v
