BEER SOLD IN RESTAURANT.

HOBSON STREET RAID. IT.LICH FINED £40. There was ono thing that lVlcr Urlich, a restaurant keeper. of Hubson Street, sold that ilid not appear on his menu. This was beer. For selling liquor without a license he appeared at the l'olife Court this morning on two charges, Hiid pleaded guilty.

Street. On May '21 and again on May 27 Urlich sold l>cer to u constable. As a result the restaurant was raided by the policj last Friday night, when a quantity of liquor was seized. Mr. K. A. linger, \vln> appeared fnr accused, said that Urlich hud i-een in the Dominion for 22 years, and ha<l enjoyed a verv excellent record. Never once had he been inside a Court until this morning. He had only received two lots of liquor from suppliers, an.l not three, as Mr. Uummings had said. As quite a lot had been seized by the police, it was evident that Urlich had only carried on his illegal business in a small way. He was a systematic slygrog seller, and counsel asked that his good record in the past should be taken into consideration in assessing the penalty.

Urlich was then fined £20 o-i each of the two charges. The liquor \v::s ordered to he forfeited and soM.
