"He should have known better," sak} Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., this morning at Hamilton, in fining Edward Raymond Blackwell 20/ on a charge of assaulting Chas. James Mack. The evidence showed that both Blackwell and Mack had attended a dance at Frankton, and while Mack was in conversation with a young ladv under a verandah, in Hamilton East. *a torch was thrust in his face by Blackwell, who then struck Mack a vicious blow on the right eye. The explanation for the offence made by counsel for Blackwell was that the accused found Mack speaking very coundentially to a young lady whom the accused held in high regard, and in a lit of uncontrollable rage he struck Mack. He later apologised and also paid £15 for loss of wages and medical expenses, to Mack. As full restitution had beeu made a fine of 20/ was imposed.
