Tho.Be three tyes of 10.-k washers arc the invention of a practical mechanic; each of them has been tested and found efficient. They have tlu advantage ol being both cheap and easy to make. Iu Fig. 1, the washer is cut oblong, the hole is drilled in the centre, and one end is split and spread. This washei ia slipped on, and the two tabs ar« bent up against the flat sides of the nut, while the other end is bent down ward over the edge of the part held. Fig. 2 shows a common squart washer, made of 1/lCth in. sheet iron When the washer and nut have beet tightened down, a prick punch :« driven into two corners, and the othei two cornere are bent up against th« , flats.
