ULIMAROA IN PORT.

STEAMERS DUE ON THURSDAY. Comparatively little overseas tonnage has arrived at Auckland during the past few days. This morning, however, the Ulimaroa arrived from Sydney, and this afternoon the Tofua is due from Western Pacific Islands. The port will again be quiet to-morrow, but on Thursday the Port Hardy is due from London, and the Waiotapu from San Francisco. The West Ivan, which was also due on Thursday, has now reported that she will not arrive from Los Angeles until Friday. ARRIVALS—THIS DAY. The Awahou is to go on the flip for overhaul. The Mako will sail on Saturday for East Coast bays and Napier. THE SUSSEX TO SAIL. In continuation of her voyage from Eastern purls, tlio Sussex Is to leave Auckland at 10 p.m. to-day for Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin. NUCULA SAILED. A sailing from Auckland late yesterday afternoon was the Admiralty tanker Nucula, for San Pedro, to load a cargo of fuel oil for use by warships of the New Zealand squadron. THE PORT DUNEDIN. Loaded with cargo for discharge at Suva, Wellington, Auckland and Napier, the Com rnonwealth and Dominion Line motorship . NIAGARA NEARTNG SUVA. En route from Vancouver to Sydney, the I'iiion Co.'s R.M.s. Niagara is due to arrive at Suva 011 Fridn.v next. She is due at Auckland on Monday morning, and is timed to resume her voyage to Sydney at 11 p.m. the same day. THE TORT DENISON. A projected sailing from Wellington at daybreak on Sunday is the Commonwealth and Dominion Line steamer Port Denison for London, via Cape Horn and St. Vincent. She is at present at Wanganui. THE PORT GISBORNE. One of the latest additions to the Com monwealtli and Dominion .Line's rapidly growing fleet, the new motorship Port Gishorne. is to sail from London on August 10, for Suva, Wellington and Lyttelton. This will be her maiden voyage. TIIE TOFUA. Twenty-four hours late, as the result of encountering stormy weather, the Union Co.'s passenger steamer Tofua is expected to reach Auckland from Western Pacific Tslands this afternoon. She will berth at the Queen's wharf. THE PORT HUNTER. It is announced by the local agents for .the C. and D. Line that the steamer Port Hunter has been fixed to load at Glasgow and Liverpool during June for Aneklnnd. Wellington. Lyttelton. Dunedin and Timaru. She is to clear Liverpool about June IS. ULIMAROA IN TORT: An arrival at Auckland this morning was the Iluddart. Parker Co.'s steamer Ulimaroa, with passengers, mail and cargo from Sydney. She berthed at the Central wharf. The vessel left Sydney at midday on Friday, and experienced an average weather trip across to this port. The vessel is to l sail oil her return trip at 11 a.m. on Friday. C. AND D. NEW YORK SAILINGS. Under charter to the Commonwealth and Dominion Line, the steamer Maimyo is to sail from New York on May 25 for Auckland and Southern ports. The Port Albany is to sail from NewYork on July 15 for Auckland. Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin, and probably "Melbourne and Sydney. WEST IVAN DELAYED. Messrs. Henderson and Macfarlane advise that the Americatf-Australiau-Orient Lino steamer West Ivan has reported that she is encountering stormy weather, and will not now reach Auckland before Friday morning. She was previously expected to arrive on Thursday. The West Ivan is bringing timber, case oil, and general cargo from Pacific Prwifit nnrta.

NEWCASTLE'S FLOATING DOCK. It Is again reported from Australia that a 15,000-ton floating dock is to be built at the Walsh Island Dockyard, Newcastle (N.S.W.), tor the Government of New South Wales, at a cost of over £400,000, to which the Federal Government wiU contribute £ 135,000, states "The Syren and Shipping." The construction of the dock, it is added, will extend over three years. It will be capable of taking the new Commonwealth cruisers, and of being towed to any Australian port, if necessary, in time of war. NEW OIL TANKERS. Last year the Anglo-Persian Oil Company decided to strengthen the fleet of its British Tanker Company, Limited, by 18 new oil-carriers, and the first of these was launched on the Tyne on 4th April, states the "Cyren and Shipping." Since the war the company has built no fewer than 44 vessels of this type, and the fact that all these have been constructed at Home is a striking tribute to its enterprise_ and the virility of British shipbuilding. When the tonnage on order is completed the fleet will consist of over 80 units aggregating over 750,000 tons dw. DIESEL-ELECTRIC TANKER. A contract has been placed Dy riie Atlantic Retining Company, of Philadelphia, a company which already possesses a number of Diesel-electric vessels, for a Diesel-electric oil tanker. Their J. W. Vandyk, built in America in 1918, is the largest Dieselelectric ship in operation, at the present time. She has a gross tonnage of about 5000, but the new ship to be built at Greenock will be at least 5000 tons larger. The vessel will be the first constructed on the Clyde for propulsion by machinery of the Diesel-electric type. The Diesel engines are to be of the Carels-Ingersoll-Rand type, and will be constructed by the Carels Company, of Ghent. The electric transmission gear will be provided, as already stated, by the British, Thomson-Houston Company, Ltd., Rugby. All the machinery will be fitted in the vessel at Greenock by the shipbuilders, Messrs. Scott and Co.

The Kaimanawa is to leave Westport towards the end of this week for Auckland, via Napier and Gisborne. The Waipiata is expected to leave Dunedin this evening for Oamaru. Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington and Auckland. The Kurow is to leave Lyttelton this evening for Picton and Auckland. The Wingatui is expected to leave Lyttelton this evening for Wellington and Auckland. The Kaituna, discharging Australian cargo, left Bluff last evening for Auckland, via Dunedin, Lyttelton, Wellington and New Plymouth. The Waiotapu, which is expected to arrive at Auckland at noon on Thursday from Pacific Coast ports, is to sail from this port on Friday afternoon for Napier, Wellington, Melbourne and Sydney. The vessel will now sail for New Plymouth on Thursday afternoon, as usual. The Ngatiawa left Onehunga for Raglan and Kawhia last evening, but was sheltering inside the Heads to-day.
