PARCEL DELIVERY.
A scheme for the collection and delivery of parcels in country districts is at present being drawn up by the business gent of the Railway Department, and will be submitted to carriers in conjunction with whom the Department works in various country centres, states the Christchurch ''Press."' The scheme will be independent of the railways, but 1 ■should be beneficial to both the railways snd the carriers concerned. The proposal •s that in each district, a carrier should draw up a schedule of visiting each outlying point on a certain day, delivering parcels from the railway and lifting parcels to be consigned away. It is anticipated that once it became known that the carrier would pass a place on a certain day each week, the residents would arrange for their parcels to come from the city on that day, and would have any parcels that they wanted sent awav ready. A saving in time (o farmers would result, as there would be no need to go to the railway for their parcels or .jog-jag .purpose of sending parcels away.
