DISASTROUS START.
TRANS-ATLANTIC FLIGHT. NEW YORK, April 17. Tho Fokkcr monoplane, in which Commander Byrd had planned to fly to Paris overturned while he was making a landing near New York, after a test flight. Byrd's wrist was broken, and the pilot, Bennett, sustained a broken leg and other injuries. Lieutenant Xoville, the
Mr. A. Fokker. Commander Byrd. associate pilot, was internally injured. Mr. Anthony Fokker, the designer of the monoplane who was at the control when the accident occurred, was not hurt. r The machine was badly damaged. It is believed that the projected flight will be cancelled.
