THE AUCKLAND MEETING. CIVILITY WINS THE BIG MILE. OASCONY ADDS ANOTHER CLASSIC TO HIS RECORD. Tlu* autumn meeting of the Auckland Racing- Club opened at Ellerslie on Saturday in ideal conditions, there being n largo attendance and some exceptionally interesting racing. The Easter Handicap of two thousand sovereigns was won by the Wanganui-trained mare Civility. The Great Northern Oaks was won by Flying Juliet, who accounted for a hot favourite in Lady Desmond. In the G.N. Champagne Stakes Gascony, carrying £1200 more than Cimabue. prevailed by a neck only over Pagnelli.

An inquiry was held concerning interference with Thaw in the Onslow Stakes. It was found that Golden Wedding was forced over on to Thaw owing to Mosque coming in, and no action was considered necessary. In the President's Handicap Curraghmore suffered some interference and an inquiry was opened, but adjourned until this morning. E. Warner, rider of Day Bell in the Brighton Hurdles, broke a stirrup and had to pull up his mount. The stewards advised him to see in future that his gear was in proper order before going out to ride. The sum of £51.997 10/ was put through the totalisator. a decrease of £4.243 compared with the 192t> opening day when £.Sfi,24o 10/ was handled. Wedding March took charge running down the hill, and was first over the last fence, going on to win by a length from Pentagram, with Bahadur three lensths away, third.
