WIDOWS' PENSIONS.
CRITICISM OF SYSTEM. LABOUR WOMEXS COXFEREXCE. (By Telegraph.—Pross Association.) XAPIER, Saturday. At the national conference of women members of the Xew Zealand Labour party on Saturday. Mrs. Snow, of Wellington, in discussing the widows' pension system, said some of the deductions in respect of income earned were unjust and illogical. She criticised particularly the amount a widow is allowed to earn without the pension being reduced. She expressed the opinion that all widows" pensions should be on the level of the war widows pensions.
Sirs. Snow also urged reconsideration of the amount allowed for ehilldren, remarking that the child welfare branch of the Education Department in some cases allowed 15/ a week, with an extra amount for clothinfr.
The conference passed resolutions demanding amendments, of the laws dealing with illegitimate children, and also of the laws regarding girl apprentices. The Labour party's proposal for a State nursiug- service was-endorsed.
