The Easter conference of the Australian Labour party was characterised by several bouts of fisticuffs between delegates and the expulsion from the movement of many prominent members. The militant section captured mos: of the official positions in the conference and there were rowdy scenes when the question of the adoption of "Red" rules took place. Xo decision was reached. The conference suspended from office for three year* Mr. Conrov, who was elected president by the Executive of the Australian Labour party. Mr. Carey, the peneral secretary, and Mr.

Gibbs, the a<--i~tant secretary, and other momliors of the majority section. Mr. J. T. Lang, Premier of Xew South Wales, was in-tructod to reconstruct his Cabinet and was pivt-n dictatorial powers. The Minister* to be sacrificed arc the 'Minister of Public Instruction, Mr. T. D. Mutch, the Minister of Local Government, Mr. J. .1. Fitzgerald, the Minister of Works and Railways, Mr. M. M. He will probahly ask the Governor, Sir Dudley de Chair, to grant a dissolution in August or September. j The conference expelled Messrs, V. W. E. Goodwin, R. T. Gillies. M.L-A.'s, and \ Mr. P. V. Loughlin, formerly Minister of J Lands, from the Labour movement. This step may influence the Governor i to send for the Leader of the Opposition. , Mr. T. R. Bavin, before he grants a I dissolution.
