RUGBY TANGLE.

HAMILTON AND WAIKATO. SUB-UNION REFUSES TO JOIN. UNTIL A CONFERENCE. '"That this meeting recommends to the management committee that it does not affiliate with the pai-eut body— Waikato—until such time as a confercniv is held between the two bodies to put matters on a better basis." So ran a resolution at the annual meeting of the Hamilton Rugby Sub-union last evening in Hamilton. It was proposed by Mr. A. T. (TilTe. who in doing so said that he did so for the following reasons: Conflict of interests, insufficient representation on the Waikato Union, too many Waikato rep. matches stopping local fixtures—when a Waikato match was on seven or eight local players were playing, and the balance of SO to 90 were on the side line; failure or the Waikato Union to improve football after six or seven years' trial; the hor-tile attitude of the'Waikato Union in endeavouring to obtain another ground when Hamilton had already spent nearly £1400 on their grounds, tin's action being taken to block the Hamilton Sub-union receiving a percentage of the gate. Mr. C. R. Habone sai<l it appeared to him that this was '•direct action."' and wanted to know if the New Zealand Union had been give notice of this motion. "This i~, no doubt, a drastic step," said Mr. Colin Speight, "but the reasons already given are full and ample, but no doubt temporary disqualification would be the result."' Mr. W. Fraser, treasurer of the Waikato Union, who was present as a local delegate, agreed that a conference was decidedly necessary, but there were only a fw on the parent body who arc not altogether reasonable, but, again, Hamilton must take some of the blame, Messrs. R. Johnston and Fred. Jones spoke in favour of the motion, the latter gentleman addinjr, "We will get disqualified, that's a moral, but it seems hard to find any way out."' Mr. Hawko read correspondence showing that the Hamilton Sub-union had kept the Waikato Union advised of Mr. Dean's movements.

The motion was carried without a dis sentient voice.
