SOCIAL GATHERINGS.
A party at which "flag" bridge was played was given in the Lyceum Club rooms last Saturday afternoon by Miss S. Fitzherbert for Miss Kathleen King. In honour of her approaching marriage. Miss King was the recipient of manv pretty and useful gifts at the hands o*f her fellow guests. *<-■»• An enjoyable time was given to a number of the cadets off the Northumberland on Sunday afternoon, when they were taken for a motor drive round the city, finishing up at "Trentham." Miss A. Webster's home, for tea. Miss Webster was assisted by Mrs. O. Hutchinson and Misses Zinian and Casey, who lent their cars for the purpose of entertaining the cadets. « • * « Mrs. Beattie gave a bridge party last Saturday evening for her sister. Miss Kathleen King, in honour of her approaching wedding, at Mrs. J. W. Wilson's residence, Hurstmere Road. The guests were Mrs. Julius Williamson, Mrs. E. Grimwade, Mrs. Dighton, Mrs. D. Mowbray, Mrs. Meßride, Mrs. Gould, Mrs. E." Davies, Mrs. F. Buddie, Mrs. King. Miss S. Fitzherbert, Miss (i. Williams. Miss M. Gamble, Miss E. Berry, Miss Harris, and Miss M. King. • • • • On Saturday, the Mothers' Club of the Y.W.C.A. farewell Miss McLeod, who has been on the staff at that institution for over nine years, and for some time was immigration secretary. Miss McLeod is taking up the position of general secretary in Petone, a district which is opening up a new field in Y.W.C.A. work. Miss McLeod was the inaugurator of the Mothers' Club, which took this opportunity of presenting her i with a bouquet of flowers and a powder bowl. Some excellent musical items were
given during the evening, and Mr. Norman Tate added considerably to the general entertainment with a juggling performance, and in leading the community singing. •w• • •
A largely attended social afternoon was given on the 7th of this month m honour of Mrs. W. Berry (who is shortly leaving for a trip to England), the donors being the members of the Kingland Methodist Church ladies' guild. The social took place at the residence of Mrs. C. H. Page. The Rev. T. W. Yealie presented Mrs. Berry with a handsome suitcase as a recognition of the years during which Mrs. Berry had won the love and esteem of her fellow workers by her constant good work for the guild and other church departments. He wished her a happy voyage and reunion with relatives and friends in the Homeland, being followed in this by Mrs. T. Hodgson, secretary. Mrs. Berry suitably responded, stating how the dreams of many years were now to be realised. A dainty afternoon tea was provided and served by Mrs. C. H. Page, assisted by her daughter, Mrs. Garland.
Mrs. Tom Buddie, who is returning to India this week, gave a delightful morning tea party on Saturday to bid farewell to her many friends. * Among those present were:—Miss Ivy Buddie, Miss Gladys Buddie, Mrs. Maitland.
