LONDON BUTTER MARKET.

NEW ZEALAND LEFT BEHIND. FOREIGN BUTTERS GET BEST PRICES. (Received 9 a.m.) LONDON, April 11. The position of the butter market shows little change. There is a good consumptive demand, and the price for the Australian and New Zealand is maintained at 150/'. An extraordinary feature of the trade is the enormous disparity between the price of Danish, which hardened to about ]S4' and New Zealand. The difference between Danish and New Zealand in pre-war days used t.i be about 4 to 6/ per cwt. Traders generally attribute this position to the unpopularity of New Zealand control methods, but one of them pointed out that it is also partly due to Denmark having recently instituted date stamping on its casks. It was at 'list thought that -:ampins would tend to lower the price of Danish, but so far it had quite the opposit effect for Danish having to be sold immediately on acount of the date stamp has been put on the counter in the freshest condition possible, with the result that the demand has become bigger than it has ever been. Other butter which is free from control is also fetching abnormally high prices compared with New Zealand, notably Argentine 156' to ]58', Finnish lTt>' to ITS . Even Siberian is making 150/ to 152. . ALLOTMENTS NOT CLEARED. Mr. W. W. Bowker has received the following cable from A. J. Mills and Co., London, under date of April 7, as follows:— Butter.—The market is steady. Sales this week, 150/ to 154,'. Allotments not quite cleared. Cheese.—The market is firm. Sales this week 74/' to 76/. Allotments cleared. N.Z. UXSALTED, 162/ TO 164.'. Messrs. A. H. Turnbull and Co. are in receipt of a cable from Messrs. \V. Weddel and Co., Ltd., London, dated Bth inst., reading as follows: Danish butter, 182/ to 185/; New Zealand unsalted butter, 162 to 164/; salted ditto, 150/ to 154/. Market steady.. New Zealand cheese, white and coloured, 75/ to 76/. Market steady, good demand. Canadian cheese, 92/ to 04/.
