FACILITIES FOR GAMES.
QUESTION FOR CANDIDATES. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Sports Protection League has entered the City Council election campaign. Mr. Johnston, who presided over a representative gathering of delegates, said the authorities had been lax in their attitude towards improving sports grounds. The promise that a "loan of £100,000 would be submitted had not been carried out. The director of reserves had put before the Reserves Committee proposals involving a sum of £-31,000 for essential works, but there the matter had ended. The proposal to purchase grounds at Miramar and Kaiwana had been dropped, and nothing had been done to provide Turkish and tepid baths.
Resolutions were carried in favour of the acquisition of Clear Island, at the north-east end of the harbour, recording appreciation of the services of Mr. Thompson, chairman of the reserves committee, and asking him to allow himself to be again nominated for the council, and setting lip a sub-com-mittee to frame a question to put to candidates.
