PRICE OF NAURU PHOSPHATES
MELBOURNE, March 22
An inquiry into the superphosphate industry in Australia was asked for bv Mr. A. S. Kodgers (Nat., Wannon). As against the New Zealand price of £4 2/6 a ton, Nauru phosphate was Australia on the sair« da«at £o 7/C. There had been an increase of 7/6 a ton in Australia, while there had been a reduction in New Zealand of tl 8/6.

Mr. S. M. Bruce. Prime Minister, said the lower price in New Zealand was the icm It. of a trade war. The question of the price was connected with the extraction and shipment of the phosphates -it Nauru Island. During the last three years the j.rice had been considerably lower in Australia than in New Zealand. Mr. J. H. Scullin (Lab., Yarra) allied that the Australian producer was a: the mercy of a combine, but it \va» within the power of the Commonwealth to control the price. The matter then dropped
