AUCKLAND BROADCASTS.
PUZZLE OF ''FADING." REPORTS FROM OBSERVERS. (By Telegraph.—Pre*s Association.) . WELLINGTON. Thursday. The causes of fading experienced when listening to the wjrele«s transmission from IVA. Auckland, must be looked for outside the precincts of the broadcasting station, according to a statement issued by the Postmaster-General today. In view of tiio complaints eoniretent observers, located in selected pans of the Auckland district, and covering the main points of the compass, were iiskol to furnish reports regardinj the special transmission on -Tauuary 11. An analysis of the reports showed that the fading complained of must be attributed to a cause other than faulty transmission. for while some listener* reported intense fading, others in the same or different localities were at the same moment enjoying perfect reception. Kaitaia. 100 miles distant, and Kaikohe. 123 miles, agreed that the fading was severe, so much so in the tir-t half of the programme that Kaitaia listeners ceased their observations. Whangarei. S3 miles away in the same direction, reported that there was no siirn of fading.
In a south-easterly direction. Rotorua. 123 mile* from Auckland, reported severe and persistent fading, while Thame*, at a distance of 4S miles, obtained pertVct results. Whakatane. Hr> mile*, reporte-1 intermittent fading and steadiness. In a southerly direction, the reception at Hamilton. 73 miles, and Tanmarunut. 140 miles, was practically perfect, only brief fading at the latter town being recorded.
It was stated by the Postmaster-fun-eral that at Nelson fading from < hristchureh was very marked, while the reception from Auckland was invariably steady. At Napier. Auckland was found to fade badly, but the Christchurch fading was only slight.
