BORSTAL TRAINING.
ADDITIONAL LAND ACQUIRED. AREA NEAR TE AWAMUTC. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) TE AWAMUTIL Thursday. Advice has been received from the Minister of Justice, Hon. F. J. Rolleston, that the Government has decided not to accede to representations to make available for closer settlement about 2000 acres of the 5000-acre block at Tokanui, three miles from Kihikihi. Nevertheless, arrangements have been completed by which the Prisons Department will take over some of the Tokanui estate. Just what acreage is to be transferred is not stated^ The Minister says the original area was iusufficeut to maintain and utilise the number of bids ordered Borstal detention, and the additional area is essential for agch purpose.
