BUTTER AND CHEESE.
OUTPUT FOR SEVEN MONTHS. LARGE INCREASE IN BUTTE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. Returns prepared by the dairy division of the Department of Agriculture show the amount of salted butter graded for February was 7802 tons and the amount unsalted was 280 tons, making a total of 8082 tons, compared with 7070 tons of salted and 240 tons of unsalted for February, 1926, an increase of 10.6 per cent for the seven months ended February, 1927. The respective quantities were 52.049 tons and 1706 tons, a total of 53,755 tons, compared with 46,143 tons and 2563 tons, a total of 48,706 tons for the corresponding period of the preceding season, an increase of 10.4 per cent. Cheese graded for February, 1927, comprised 641S tons of white and 3182 tons of coloured, a total of 9600 tons, compared with 5291 tons of white and 3538 tons of coloured for February, 1926, an increase of 8.7 per cent. The quantities for the seven months ended February, 1927, were 36.217 and 18.195 tons of white and coloured respectively, compared vrith 33,792 tons of white and 18,915 tons of coloured for the corresponding period of the preceding season, an increase of 3.2 per cent. The stocks held in the various grading ports at February 28. 1927, were: Butter, 13,811 tons; cheese, 13,224 tons; compared with 9166 tons of butter and 13,016 tons of cheese on February 28, 1926.
