EMPIRE-MADE GOODS.

MISLEADING ADVERTISEMENTS. LONDON, March 8. It is understood that a number of members of the House of Commons are determined to stop the abuse of the word "Knipire" in advertisements. They wish to have inserted a clause in the Merchandise Marks Bill which will dearly define the extent to which the word may he legitimately applicable. The Empire Producers' Association favours the adoption of principle under v.-I>k:l] Home of the Dominion grant preferfnc«n, by insisting that at least 75 per cent of the value of the article must have been expended in labour and materials before the word "Krnpire" can be applied. Holms traders consider the use of the wotd* "Krnpire" and "Imperial" should be prohibited altogether, because it gives the consumers the impression that the (rood* are officially recommended. They think the name of the country of origin nhould be stated on imported goods. - ("Sun" Cable.)
