TAKAPUNA BOROUGH COUNCIL. The Takapuna Borough Council met last evening. Present: The Mayor (Mr. .1. I>. Morison). and Messrs. J. Collins. G. Creamer. G. H. Matthew s. A. H. WjJluc. F. W. Suckling, and .1. W. Williamson. Before the commencement of the ordinary business the council passed a resolution of sympathy with the relative* of the lalc Mr. Audu* Raynes. a former councillor. the members standing in silenc-e. .Account* for Payment.—A recommendation from the Finance and Committee that accounts totalling £1136 be j passed for payment was adopted. ! Water Reticulation.—On the advice of I the Public Sett-ire* Committer. the I counril decided that the Takap-uM R.:tepaycis' Association should l»e rniomied I that the question of fire lighting mains i would Ik> <-onsldcied at the sitting oi the I Royal t'ommission this month. A letter was received from I the Waitemata County Council expressing j dissatisfaction with the progress of these j works to date, and a sub-c-ommittee was appointed to meet representative* of the j County Council on Friday next. Omnibus Traffic Act.—ln reply to the i council's request that the amount expended 'by the council re the Motor Omnibus Traffic Act l»c refunded, the Minister of Public Works advised that the Govemt mt-nt had incurred considerable expenditure in the administration «J the Act. chiefly by reason of the activities of the Transport Appeal lloaid. and that the request could not be granted. Bayswatcr Firefighters.—The superintendent oi the fire brigade reported that | it had been decided to lonn an auxiliary ; fire brigade at Bayswatcr. Arrangements ) had been made to store the equipment at, Fever's Store. The purchase of fire fighting apparatus at a cost of £4S 18/ was authorised. , Cricket Club.—A deputation from the Takapuna Cricket Club asked that the council should carry out improvements at I the cricket ground. The assistant cngmeei uas authorised to inspect the grounds, and report to the council on the estimated cost of the required improvements. Clearing the Lake.—The North Shore Boroughs* Water Board advised that the work of clearing rotting vegetation in the water oi the had Jjecn commenced. Proposed Swimming Bath.—A proposal by Mr. Matthews that a swimming bath ] Ih> built at Takapuna Beach, and that a i small loan l»e raised ior the purpose was referred to the Public Services Committee. Playing Area Suggested.—TJie advisability of raising a loan oi £l<i.«W for ihe acquisition of Napier Point and the development of a playing area wa« discussed, and it was finally decided that the engineer estimate the cost of forming the proposed playing area. A Tender Accepted.—A tender erf £4333 for Contract No. 122 <tbc construction of a steel gantry and footwalk from the foot of Everslcigli Road to the point of the cemetery. Bayswatcr 1 was accepted. Ihe successful tenderer being W. .1. Lopdall. At II p.m. the council adjourned until 13 p.m. on Monday next.
