! FUNERAL AT RAWENE. (From Our Own Correspondent.! ? RAWENE,' Wednesday. ' Rawene and the whole district was 1 profoundly shocked and grieved wlier J the sad news came through that Mrs Spender had been killed in a motor accis dent at the 90-Mile Beach motor rac« e sports. Immediately upon receipt of the t telephone message Mr. Paul Spender accompanied by Mr. R. B. Russell county chairman, left for Kaitaia t< i take charge of the body, it having beer ! removed to the Kaitaia Church by tin Rev. Archdeacon Hawkin. Thei brought the body back to Rawene oi Saturday morning, and a solemn aiu impressive service was held in A 1 Saints' Church, the coffin being loadei with wreaths and other floral emblem from her many friends and sympa tliisers. The Rev. Barnade Brown con ducted the funeral service, both at th diurch and the grave. The church wa packed, and everybody was visibl; 1 affected. The local'lodge of Oddfellow e (of which Bro. Spender is a member L * led the cortege from the church to th ie cemetery, and carried the wreaths fror g the car to the grave. It was the larg est funeral ever seen here. The shop - all closed, and flags were at half-mas s j in the township. The late Mrs. Spen der will be greatly missed. She wa ie an acti\"e worker in the church an 3- also organist.
