VOLUNTEER BUTCHERS.
DISMISSAL DEMANDED. FEILDIXG COMPANY REFUSES. (By Telegraph.-Own Corresi'ondent.) FEILDIXG, Monday. To-day, the union butchers, who had been engaged at the Feilding freezing works, and who had ceased operations on Friday last owing to a difference with the company regarding the request for double rates for the handling of ram lambs, advised the company's delegates at the conference that they would not resume operations until the volunteeer butchers were dismissed. The company decided at once not to agree to the demand, but to carry on with the volunteer labour. At present there are seven or eight volunteer butchers on the board, and the number can be largely increased. The company decided to at once call for the required number of volunteers.
