DENSE FOG.
Minor Casualties in New York
Harbour.
SHIPPING DISLOCATED. I Received 10.30 a.m.) NEW YORK, February 17. Unusually dense fog covered the northeastern coast of the United States from northern New Jersey to Boston. Shipping in New York Harbour was dislocated, the fog being so thick that the observers at Ambrose lighthouse were unable to see even the silhouettes of vessels. Four ocean liners are due, and it is presumed they have dropped anchors in the offing. Many river vessels have anchored off New York and the ferries are either greatly delayed or not operating at all.
Among the latter is the ferry to the Statue of Liberty.
The ferry boat operating between Brooklyn and New York had its sides grazed by a barge, causing intense excitement among the 300 passengers, but there were no injuries.
Another ferry boat was swept up the river by the tide and narrowly averted crashing into the sea wall.
