NEW SECTION TAKEN OVER.

SATISFACTORY TESTS,

The new cable stretching from Suva to Fanning Island has now been taken over by the Pacific Cable Board. This new control will complete the duplication of the cable between Bainfield, British Columbia anil Suva.

Yesterday morning the guarantee period on the new cable expired, and in the final tests which have been taken, it is reported everything is satisfactory. The caides are now fully available for the passage of traffic.

Recent speed trials on the SuvaFanning section have achieved readable figures at 320 words a minute, with indications that higher speeds shall bo obtainable with the application of suitable apparatus.
