MERCER REGATTA

The itnuual Mercer regatta, which is t<> be held on Saturday, has attracted a record number of entries for the rowing events. Ten heavy-weight crews will compete for th«> Dc-war Shield, and the lightweight race also promises to |x> an interesting one, no fewer than nine crews heinj; engaged. An attractive programme of Maori events has been arranged, and it is proposed to give an old time Maori display.

The course for the rowing events will be down stream. The Waikato is runninK slacker thun u*ual and visiting crews used to slack water should find the conditions favourable.
