MILITARY TRAINING.
APPRENTICES AND
exemption.
AMENDMENT SOUGHT.
several remits forwarded from Wanganui were considered at a conference of delegates representing apprenticeship committees held last evening. Mr. M Palmer presided and there were over GO delegates present. A remit suggesting that apprenticeship committees should elect representatives to the boards of governors of technical colleges instead of being representatives of employers' associations and unions was turned down.
A resolution approving of absolutelyfree instruction for every pupil attending technical classes was carried, as was also one that technical training should be carried out during working hours rather than in the evenings. A remit suggesting that during the years of compulsory trade classes, students should be exempt from militarv drill gave rise to considerable discussion. Eventually it was decided to ask that the Act be amended to provide for the exemption from drill of apprentices attending evening classes.
