DAIRY PRODUCE.
THE LONDON MARKET.
N.Z. BUTTER NEGLECTED
A DISQUIETING FEATURE
Latest reports on the butter market in London are by no means reassuring to New Zealand producers, wiiose product is apparently being neglected in favour of other brands. Recently the board, apparently relying upon the relatively high prices obtainable for Danish, raised the price 2/ to 176/ for finest, despite the fact that their stocks were accumulating and that the rate of sales had decreased. Now comes a disquieting feature in the report furnished by Dalgety and Co.'a London office, which states that second-hand sales of New Zealand butter are being made at from 2/ to 4/ under the board's rates.
Dalgety's cable, which is dated London, February 17, reads as follows:—
Butter.—New Zealand Daily Board minimum price finest butter, 176/ per cwt; first grade, 174/; Danish butter, 192/; finest Australian, salted, 164/ to 168/; unsalted, 170/ to 172/. Cheese.—The market is slow. New Zealand Dairy Board minimum price, finest coloured, 92/ per cwt; first, coloured, 91/; finest white, 92/; first, white, 91/; Canadian spot cheese, coloured, 96/ to 100/white, 96/ to 100/. Danish butter weaker, price f.o.b. IS6/. New Zealand continues neglected, with stocks accumulating. There axe secondhand offerings of New Zealand finest brand 2/ to 4/ under minimum price. I The total imports of butter into the United Kingdom for last month were 476,000cwt, as compared with 673,000c\vt for corresponding period of last year.
