MEETING OF PROPRIETORS.

OFFICERS ELECTED.

WELLINGTON, Thursday,

The annual meeting of the New Zealand Newspaper Proprietors' Association was held to-day.

The following officers were elected: — President, Mr. C. W. Earle, general committee, Messrs. C. W. Earle (chairman), A. G. Henderson, W. Easton, H. Hortoni W. Cecil Leys, R. B. Bell, J. Coombs, A. McNicol; treasurer, Mr. <j. S. McXair; secretary, Mr. L. J. Berrv.

It was resolved to place on record deep regret at the death of old and honoured members—Sir Henry Brett, Mr. Arthur Copping, the Hon. W. J. Geddis and Mr. F. Pirani—and appreciation of their earnest li\es and long and valuable services to the Dominion, 'ine sympatliv of the association will be conveyed to relatives. Sympathy was also extended to Mr. A. M. Burns (Christchurch) and Mr. A. A. Lucas (Nelson) in their recent bereavements.

THE PRESS ASSOCIATION.

11EVIEW OF YEAR'S WORK. WELLINGTON, Thursday. The annual meeting of the shareholders of the United Press Association was held this afternoon. The annual report ma .c reference to the deaths of Sir Henry Brett, Mr. F. Pirani, Mr. A. E. Copping and the Hon! W. J. Geddis, the first two-named having been chairmen and directors of the association. It also alluded to the passing o' the "New Zealand Times." During the year 904,308 original words of cable news had been supplied to the newspapers, and the above contract was made with the cable association of Australia for two years, with the option of two more. One of t features of the year was the large increase in the number of evening papers publishing late Saturday editions. The chairman had presented one tree and the association five trees for Canberra Avenue in the Australian Federal capital. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. Mr. L. P. Blundell, a retiring director, was re-elected. Mr. A. M. Burns, the other retiring director, did not offer himself again, and Mr. A. G. Henderson, of the "Lyttelton Times," wasr elected in his place. Wellington was chosen as the next place of meeting.

At a subsequent meeting of directors Mr. W. Cecil Leys ("Auckland Star") was elected chairman for the ensuing year.
