YOUTH CAUGHT AT HAMILTON.
HE OPERATED AT WEEK-ENDS PROBATION GRANTED. (R.v Telegrapj. - Own CorresponJent.i HAMILTON, this day. Systematic thefts of money and articles from the clothing of bathers at Hamilton Lake and swimming baths led to the arrest recently of a diminutive youth of 17, who to-day was charged on remand before Mr. Wyveru Wilson, S.M., with the theft of seveial sums of money and a wristlet watch from clothing at the Lake baths, and one sum of £7 from the pocket of a bather at Te Awamutu bath*.
Accused, who seemed an intelligent lad. had been employed at Te Awamutu. He was in the habit of \isiting Hamilton during the week-ends, and staying with hie grandfather. In variably at the week-ends complaints of then reached the police. It was stated that the boy had no parents and had been" brought up for a time by his step-father.
His Worship gave the lad fatherly advice,, counselling him to save monev. and read good books instead of hanging round picture shows, and to spend hi? night? at a gymnasium.
Accused was placed- on probation for two years, and he will be required to furnish reports to the probation officer. His name was suppressed.
l'crcy Mathieson, of Auckland, was remanded to Auckland on a charge o. breaking his probation order.
