THE CHOSEN FEW.
SUBJECTS FOR HONOURS. t HISTORY AND ECONOMICS. Graduates aspiring for honours in arts in the past few years have shown a distinct preference for the subjects of history, education and economics; and the disproportionate number of successes in these three subjects, as compared with other subjects taken by honours students, has attracted the attention of the New Zealand Universitv Council. A notice of motion was given to-day by Mr. F. Miluer, who proposed that the matter should be the subject of investigation by the new Academic Board. The notice read. . r 'That, in view of the disproportionate number of candidates gaining honours in history, education and economics, and the prejudicial effect of this preference on the teaching efficiency of the secondary schools, the Academic Board, when constituted, be asked to make a comparative, critical survey of the prescriptions for the various honours courses in arts, with a view to redressing any in- ! equalities that may exist."
