"It is not often that anyone is charged with being found unlawfully by night in j a police station," commented Mr. Bundle, S.M., when Julia Hart Eckhoff . was charged with being a rogue and a :, vagabond, having been arrested at 8 p.m. s in the prison yard. The police stated that the woman had a half-caste friend, named Quan, who was being held until his probationary Y license was cancelled. Quan had a cell in the third storey, and last evening he 3 was seen to throw a cigarette package containing a letter to a woman in the a yard. A constable rushed out and caught accused. U The senior sergeant stated that the r woman's husband had said that, unless 7 something was done with Quan, he y would kill him. g Accused was convicted and discharged, d ____________
