TE KUITI RACES. DAY GUARD'S GOLD CUP. STEWARDS' TO FLYING JULIET. McTAYISH RIDES FOUR WINNERS. (Ey Telegraph.—Press Association.) TE KUITI, Saturday. The annual meeting of the Te Kuiti Rncmcr Club opened to-day in beautiful weather. There was a large attendance, and tlie course, was in excellent order, ihough the fields were small in some instances the racing was good throughout. and some good finishes resulted. -V feature of the day's sport was the ridincr of R. W . McTavish. who piloted foil. inner?. Details of the concluding resul.i are appended: — The Programme Opens. Slump, Town Hall, and Rangiawhou were the deflections from the Hack Hurdles and Gold Rep was made a good favourite, carrying about £130 more than Pouri, while West Abbey was next in demand. Dead Sweet was in front before half a furlong had been covered and was never afterwards headed, doing alor.g the straight the first time he was attended by Gold Rep, West Abbey, Uralla and Pouri, but along the back Gold Rep came to grief. Pouri was then running second with West Abbey next. Dead Sweet was well clear entering the straight and, though challenged by Uralla, stayed on to get the decision by a long neck. West Abbey was three lengths further away, with Pouri fourth. The latter showed promise though he tried over the last bit, and finished a long way back, ilcRae, the rider of Gold Rep, received injuries to his ribs. Town Guard All The Way. All the acceptors went to the post for the Maiden Handicap and Town Guard was entrusted with about £150 more than Ballachulish, while Elinestra was next fancied. Town Guard, who was drawn very wide out, was soon in front followed by Elinestra, Day Rose, Ballachulish, Lady i'aye, Acushla and Lady Cintra. Crossing the top, Town Guard drew out from Day Rose, Ballachulish, Elinestra, Acushla and Lady Cintra. Town Guard had no difficulty in maintaining his advantage to the finish, winning comfortably by three lengths from Lady Cintra, who beat Ballachulish by a length and a-half, Acushla three-quarters of a length away with Cat Claw, Day Rose, Lady Spalpeen and Elinestra next. Dayguard Wins. Spoony, Ring the Bell, and Maeroom were scratched for the Te Kuiti Cup, leaving a iield of seven. Miss V era was just about £40 better backed than Dayguard, while Gold Jacket was next fancied. Dayguard, like the two previous winners, led all the way. Passing the stand Rarangi, Miss Vera and Gold .lajket were liis nearest attendants. ■ There was little change along the back but across the top Miss Vera, Gold Jacket and Rarangi were n terms juet behind Dayguard, but then Rarangi retired. Once in a line for the judge, Dayguard was going as well as any of the others, and he beat Miss Vera by a neck. Royal Form was a length and alialf away third, with Kamehameha a head further back fourth. Rarangi, Gold Jacket and Lord Star were next. If Day Guard had been made to carry his weight all the way, Mies Vera would have beaten him. He was allowed to get within four furlongs of home before a serious effort was made to dispute his position. The others had a bright show of sprinting Day Guard home over the last half mile. A Favourite Beaten. All started in the Te Kumi Hack Handi cap and Xgarara was just about £50 better supported than Air Queen, while Llandudno was next in demand. Llandudno led out of the straight from Whetuhine, Plane Pearl, Air Queen, Topping and Xgarara. The order was the sailie along the back, but crossing the top Air Queen showed out from Llandudno, Topping, Ngarara and Whetuhine.' However, Llandudno was in charge again before the straight was reached, and went on to win easily by a length from Ngarara, who beat Air Queen by a length and a-half. Topping, Whetuhine and Sailor Boy were next. Llandudno, who is owned by Mrs. H. M. Can: obeli, of Hawke's Bay, was formerly trained by S. Waddell, but is now a member of W. Stone's team at Te Awamutu. He is a good sort, and is sure to be in demand if started again on Monday. A Small Field. Only four went to the post for the Stewards' Handicap and Flying Juliet was entrusted with about £80 more than Pelliam, while Quinette was next fancied. From a good start, Flying Juliet took charge, followed by Quinette, Pelliam and Arch Opal. The order was rot altered till the straight, where Pelham ran up second. He, however, could reach Flying Juliet, who won by half-a-length. Arch Opal was a length away, third, with Quinette last.
