NORFOLK ISLAND TRIP.

The letter of Mr. A. A. Ross re the aborf; has just come to my notice, and I feel that, that letter, he may have conveyed the impress sion that the charm of the island trip is ovesa estimated. If that be so, I wish to assure j sir, that the conditions were not so gloomy a»; were painted by Mr. Ross. I frankly concede that the accommodation on the Hinemoa on tha trip referred to by Mr. Ross was very considerably taxed and that there was some di«> ccmfort suffered by the majority of the passena cers. In justice to the controlling authorities! however, I think it should be stated that tha demand for accommodation by reason of tha seasonal vacation was abnormal, and that frank disclosures of the nature of the accominw dation were made to passengers when booking Such was the case when I booked for tha| trip, and I have been informed by contem* porary passengers that they were similarly advised of the limited and temporary nature ci the accommodation. Notwithstanding the conditions. most of the passengers thoroughly enjoyed the trip to the island. The crew, and in particular the captain of tha vessel, did all in their power to make all passengers as comfortable as circumstances permitted. In any case the trip to tha island was well worth the £12 fare and tha little discomfort suffered in the Hinemoa. The island has great charm and its people are the most hospitable it has been my pleasure to meet. C. J. LOVEGROVE.
