Watersiders Seek Preference to Unionists. COMMENTS BY JUDGE. (Received 12.30 p-m.) MELBOURNE, this day. The Commonwealth Arbitration Court has commenced the hearing of the claims of the Waterside Workers' Federation which were in dispute during the recent no-overtime strike. The claims inchxle preferf»»ce to members of tTie Federation. Judge Beeby, referring to the latter, said preference would be granted only if the Court was satisfied that it would lead to continuity of work and a settlement of the disputes. It would be granted only as an aid to industrial peace and would not be given as a matter of faet to aid the unions in acquiring power in other directions.
