NEW VEAR'S PAIRS FINAL. 7 TE AROHA, Thursday. The filial of the New Year Pairs Competition was played on the Tourist Domain greens this afternoon between McCormacfc and McGonagle (Waihi). and Buchan and Clothier The greens were in very good order, and reflected great credit on ".Mr. Hesketh. who is in charge. After a very interesting game Waihi won, tha score being Waihi 20. Te Aroha 13. The contest was keen from the first head, which was burnt by the Waihi skip when his opponents were laying two. Then Waihi forged ahead and at the end of six heads had an advantage o£ C to 0. However, Te Aroha then took a turn, and on the twelfth head had evened the score to 10 all. With the board showing Waihi 14. Te Aroha 10, rain fell at the fifteenth head. Waihi maintained the advantage and with two heads to go were 7 up on the board. However, Tc Aroha gained three on the twentieth. Requiring four to tie Te Aroha made a great effort oil the iust head. When the skips went down thev lay three, and Clothier drew another. However. McGonagle drew Into fourth place and saved the game.
