MOUNTAINEER INJURED.
STARTLING MISHAP. (By Telegraph—Special to "Star.") CHRISTCHURCH, this day. A young mountaineer named Roger Chester, of Matson's Road, Papanui, met with an accident on Thursday, whi-h, though not serious, meant a very trying experience for him. He and a companion named Ivan Tucker joined a party that set out to climb Mount Rolleston, but, the top being hidden with mist, it was decided to make towards Harman Pass. At a height of 3000 ft, Chester was traversing the shingle face, and, starting a slide, was crushed between two large stones, a piece of the flesh of one leg being torn away. First aid was rendered by one of the party, and then a slow journey back started. The river had to be crossed five times in the twenty-mile return trip to the West Coast Road. There they fortunately met a motorist, who conveyed them to Arthur's Pass, and the wound was treated by a medical man. Chester, although confined to his bed, is making good progress.
