CANCER PREVENTION.

UNKNOWN WOMAN GIVES £ 10,000. LONDON, December 18. An anonymous woman reader of "The Daily Mail," following the perusal of Sir William Arbuthnot Lane's health articles in that paper, presented £10,000 to the London University to establish a chair of dietetics. Sir William points out that the sum is insufficient. He hopes that other generous people will subscribe another £10,000. He adds: "In view of the terribly rapid spread of cancer and other preventible diseases time should not be lost in affording doctors knowledge which alone can assist in the prevention of disease." He draws attention to Sir Neville Howse's figures showing that Australia has a higher cancer death rate than 17 other countries, as evidence of what happens in a community which is increasingly using artificially prepared foods.
